Honors sophomore Mitchell Palmertree has been selected to be a Mount Vernon Leadership Fellow! Mitchell is a public policy leadership major from Winona, Mississippi, and after participating in the Sunflower County Freedom Project in the summer of 2018, he was inspired to work on creating a similar program in Winona.

“The Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows Program is a highly selective six-week summer institute for rising college juniors offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities at the home of America’s first president just outside our nation’s capital. The fellowship provides housing, transportation and a $3000 stipend. The program explores leadership skills, connects students to mentors in Washington D.C., helps students build a professional network with mentors and peers across the nation, develop an actionable cause with a capstone project, and learn about George Washington’s extraordinary life.”

Mitchell is UM’s second student to be selected. Last year, Liza Boyer was our first-ever Mount Vernon Leadership Fellow. #citizenscholars
