SMBHC welcomes Tom Brokaw, our Barksdale fellow for April 20-23! Mr. Brokaw will co-teach a class with Professor Wilkie, Journalism, hold office hours, and speak to the community at Fulton chapel, Thursday, April 22, at 7:30 pm. See the UM press release for more information.

The Honors College received another record number of applications. Each year has seen a new record, but this year we jumped over 50% to 730 applications. The admissions committee is diligently reviewing all the applications received by the deadline and will have notifications out by the end of February.

Congratulations to the sixteen teams of freshmen who qualified for this year’s Freshmen Ventures. These teams will travel to designated cities and interview someone with the question, “What do we owe future generations?” Click here for the map of where the freshmen will be traveling. Two of the most intriguing figures in recent American history—Tom Brokaw and Rhesa Barksdale—will share their insights and reflections with students at the University of Mississippi next spring as visiting lecturers. The renowned Elie Wiesel presented our Spring SMBHC lecture on Monday evening, 7:30 p.m., at the Gertrude Ford Center for the Performing Arts to a packed house. Taylor McGraw (sophomore, Public Policy Leadership) and Audrey Seal (junior, elementary education) were announced as winners of the 2010 Barksdale Awards at Spring Convocation. Chelsea Caveny (junior, PPL) and Rachel Willis (junior, PPL/Political Science) have been named Finalists for the Truman Scholarships. They’ll be travelling to Nashville to interview for the Scholarship on March 15. Good luck, Chelsea and Rachel!
