Congratulations to Honors seniors Mary Alex Street and Maggie Day! Mary Alex (above left) has been elected as Miss Ole Miss, while Maggie (above right) has been voted as Homecoming Queen.

Applications for this year’s Barksdale Award are due by 5:00 PM on December 1. All materials must be received by 5:00 PM, or the application will not be considered. If you are applying, please make sure your letter-writers are aware of this deadline.

Congratulations to Dean Sullivan-González, who was just named the Lafayette County Volunteer Firefighter of the Year, by the Oxford Exchange Club. DSG was noted for participating in fighting “a lot” of fires, as well as for his involvement in a fundraising effort that raised $45,000 for the Lafayette County Fire Department in the last year.

The Honors College welcomes prospective students and their families to attend Scholars Day on Saturday, November 5th. The Honors College building will be open in the morning from 9:00 AM–11:15 AM for tours and for prospective students to meet current students. The National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) has selected recent SMBHC graduate Ryan Parsons as one of three 2011 NCHC Portz Scholars.
