Ember Suh Selected as ToxMSDT Mentee

Ember Suh Selected as ToxMSDT Mentee

Ember Suh (SMBHC 23) is a 2022-2023 ToxMSDT mentee. The Toxicology Mentoring and Skills Development Training program is a one-year mentorship funded by the National Institutes of Health, and mentees “are matched 1:1 with mentors primarily from industry, government, and nongovernmental organizations.” As part of the program, Ember will meet her mentee cohort at UC-Davis as well as attend the Society of Toxicology Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA, and participate in capstone activities at Tuskegee University in Alabama.

We appreciate Professor Kristie Willett for sharing this good news with us! Ember took Professor Willett’s intro to toxicology class last year and has engaged in multiple conversations with Professor Willett about toxicology as a career track.

Ember is a forensic chemistry major, minoring in biology and completing her thesis in chemistry under the direction of Professor Eden Tanner. An Honors Scholars Program student, Ember is also president of the Ole Miss Korean Students Association, a Ronald E. McNair Scholar, and a Forensic Chemistry Student Ambassador. In 2019, Ember won the 2019 Cynthia Krieser Outstanding Freshman Writing Award for her narrative about her Korean-American identity as well as the ACS Analytical Chemistry Division Award. She plans on pursuing a Ph.D. in toxicology.

About the mentorship, Ember says, “The ToxMSDT program gives me—a first-generation student—advice for applying to graduate schools and a network with toxicology professionals. I am so excited and honored to be a part of this program!”

Way to go, Ember!
