Charlotte Armistead Named Rangel Fellow

The Office of National Scholarship Advisement and the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College are delighted to announce that CHARLOTTE ARMISTEAD has been named a 2021 Rangel Fellow.

Charlotte, who comes from Mooreville, MS, is a senior at the University of Mississippi. She is a joint major in International Studies and Arabic completing a minor in Intelligence and Security Studies and is an active member of the Sally MacDonnell Barksdale Honors College.

The Rangel Graduate Fellowship is a program that aims to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State in which they can help formulate, represent and implement U.S. foreign policy. Rangel Fellows are selected annually in a highly competitive nationwide process which supports them through two years of graduate study ($84,000), internships, mentoring, and professional development activities.

Charlotte has studied in the Middle East and has held several internships in the region. Last year she interned with “Done By Native” at the U.S. Embassy in Jordan and this year she is working remotely with the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen. Charlotte hopes to attend Georgetown for her graduate education before joining the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer (FSO).

As a new Rangel Fellow, Charlotte will participate in an orientation at Howard University in May 2021. She will also participate in two summer internships; one on Capitol Hill and another at a US Embassy overseas. In addition to support for graduate fees, the Program provides support of up to $10,000 per summer. Throughout the duration of the Fellowship, Charlotte will receive mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer.

Congratulations to the University of Mississippi’s 2021 Rangel Fellow, Charlotte Armistead!
