IHL Approves Ethel Scurlock as SMBHC Dean
Dr. Ethel Scurlock is our new Dean!
From Provost Wilkin:
“I am pleased to announce that Dr. Ethel Scurlock has been appointed to serve as the next dean of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College (SMBHC). In addition to being Associate Professor of English and African American Studies, Dr. Scurlock currently serves as Senior Fellow of the Luckyday Residential College and Director of African American Studies. She will phase out of these leadership roles. Dr. Scurlock has taught in the SMBHC for over 16 years and has distinguished herself as a trusted and respected leader and administrator. The Board of Trustees of the Institutions of Higher Learning approved her appointment today, June 16, at their Board meeting. Her appointment will be effective June 24, 2022. The offer was extended to Dr. Scurlock after a national search that attracted a well-qualified pool of applicants. Thank you to members of the search committee and all others who participated in the search for this critical campus role. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Scurlock for her appointment to this important responsibility, and being the first black female to be awarded the title of dean on the Oxford campus of the University of Mississippi.”
We are so excited! Congratulations, Dean Scurlock!
