NCHC and Portz Winner
Dr. Scurlock, Dr. Parsons, Professor Williams, Honors Senate Director and Honors Ambassador Taylor Thompson, SMBHC First-Gen Student Network President Andy Flores, and Executive Director of Project Powerful and Honors Ambassador Jilkiah Bryant attended the 56th National Collegiate Honors Council Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.
Dr. Parsons presented with a colleague from the University of South Carolina’s Honors College, and Professor Williams invited Andy and Jilkiah to join her panel, where Andy shared about his UnidosUS Afro-Latinx Líderes Avanzando fellowship, and Jilkiah talked about her Columbia Public Health Scholars Program fellowship.
We’re also excited to celebrate another National Portz Scholar Award winner! Brigitte Lewis (SMBHC 21) presented her honors thesis research at the conference and won $350 for her paper’s “unique originality” and “for the depth and breadth” of her research. Brigitte earned a bachelor’s degree in African American Studies and English. Read more about her recognition.
