Congratulations to Jillian Cowart and Megan Smith, the winners of this year’s Barksdale Awards. These $5,000 awards, announced at the Spring Honors Convocation, support independent projects of the students’ own design. Jillian (junior, B.A. International Studies, Public Policy Leadership) will be exploring connections between local farming and local economies, comparing efforts in Senegal and the Mississippi Delta. Megan (junior, B.S. biology, B.A. English) will be talking with landowners all around the country to explore the efficacy of incentive-based conservation efforts.
