2012 Barksdale Award Winners Announced
Cara Thorne, sophomore biochemistry major, and Yi (Ena) Wei, sophomore pre-pharmacy major, are the winners of this year’s Barksdale Awards. Cara will spend this year working to build a basic ability in Mandarin Chinese and, in May 2013, will go to New York City to volunteer with the Chinese Community Partnership for Health Program. Planning to be a physician, Cara wants to be able to care for and communicate with people who will make up an increasingly large portion of patients on this continent. Ena will travel to China to visit her late great-grandmother’s province and explore the making of regional noodle specialties, a cuisine that is disappearing in the face of globalization.
