Congratulations to this year’s winners of the $5,000 Barksdale Award! Martina Cotelo will travel to Uruguay to work with documents and conduct interviews that will let her write the story of her grandmother, one of the German Jews who emigrated to Uruguay to escape Nazi persecution in Germany. Billy Forrest will design a survey to be administered to Mississippians using the health care services provided for the disadvantaged. She’ll try to determine their needs and wishes, and hopes to give them a voice in health care reform.
