2010 Barksdale Award Winners Announced
Taylor McGraw (sophomore, Public Policy Leadership) and Audrey Seal (junior, elementary education) were announced as winners of the 2010 Barksdale Awards at Spring Convocation. The Barksdale is an award of $5,000 to students who propose independent projects that will let them explore their talents and dreams. Audrey will use her award to help fund a summer educational camp for children in Greenville. She has designed and will run a camp featuring “travel” to nineteen cities; the students will develop educational and social skills through reading, dance, food, and games relevant to those different locations. Taylor will spend the summer in New York City, learning the stories of some of the people who live on the fringe of that urban economy and returning to write a book about them and his experiences in getting to know them and their lives.
