John Samonds grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston. He earned his Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998. Dr. Samonds joined the Honors College in 1999 as the Assistant Director and became the Associate Dean in 2004. He serves as the chief academic officer, coordinating honors course offerings with departments across campus and advising juniors and seniors on research and theses, among other things. He also serves his church, St. Peter’s Episcopal, in various ways. In his spare time, he likes watching movies with his family and working in his yard.
