Portz Scholar Genevieve Verville
Congratulations to GENEVIEVE VERVILLE (SMBHC 20), who has been selected as one of only four Portz Scholars from around the nation by the National Collegiate Honors Council. Genevieve completed her degree in chemistry with minors in mathematics, biological sciences, and psychology, and she will present her honors thesis, “Raman Spectroscopic and Quantum Chemical Investigation of the Effects of Tri-Methylamine N-Oxide (TMAO) on Hydrated Urea, Hydrated Guanidinium, and Hydrogen Bonded Networks” during the NCHC virtual conference in November as well as enjoy a $350 award. Genevieve began working with her thesis advisor, Professor Nathan Hammer (featured in a Professor Appreciation story in the 2020 Honors Report), as a freshman. Genevieve is published in top scholarly journals, and she will spend the next two years as a post-baccalaureate research fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland before pursuing a doctoral program. Congratulations, Genevieve!
