Joshua Mannery Named Truman Scholarship Finalist
We are thrilled to announce that SMBHC student Joshua Mannery is a Truman Scholarship finalist! There were over 800 applications and 60 awards are made annually. Joshua will now proceed to final round interviews in Nashville, TN, on March 18th.
Joshua is a Political Science and English double major from Jackson, MS. Passionately believing in the power of youth development, he founded “Anybody Can Be President” (ACBP), a nonprofit designed to identify absent resources for elementary, middle, and high school students throughout the state of Mississippi. ACBP provides leadership development and assistance with standardized test prep in order to create opportunities for the next generation. On campus, Joshua continues that interest in community engagement through organizations like the Associated Student Body, Orientation, Honors Ambassadors, the Honors College Minority Engagement Club, the Black Student Union, and Men of Excellence. After undergraduate, Joshua plans on pursuing a JD, specializing in civil rights law to combat the racial and ethnic disparities that exist throughout the juvenile justice system. Joshua aspires to obtain a gubernatorial position in order to effect prison reform throughout the state of Mississippi.
Wishing Joshua the best of luck! We are proud of you!
