The challenge to each honors student: become an agent of change in your community. Each semester, make a difference. Honors students will volunteer at least ten hours each fall and spring semester.*
SMBHC students can meet the challenge here in Oxford, in their hometowns, or across the ocean. They can meet it through one-on-one work with an individual in need of assistance, a service-learning or community-based experiential course, or through any avenue that matches their capabilities with someone else’s needs.
As agents of change, honors students use the Community Action Challenge to outline the scope of their concerns and dreams, explore what it takes to have a lasting impact, and transform their communities and themselves.
*Ten CAC hours should be logged on the last day of the fall and spring semesters. CAC should be fulfilled during the fall and spring, while the student is enrolled in classes. Students are exempt from CAC during the semester in which they are studying abroad and may select one semester during which they are writing the honors thesis.
SMBHC students:
• Keep CAC at the core of your honors experience. Talk with your honors advisor about your hopes for your communities and how you might make a difference now and later.
• Log your hours through UM’s GivePulse platform.
