The challenge to each honors student: become an agent of change in your community. Each semester, make a difference.
SMBHC students can meet the challenge here in Oxford, in their hometowns, or across the ocean. They can meet it through one-on-one work with an individual in need of assistance, a service-learning or community-based experiential course, or through any avenue that matches their capabilities with someone else’s needs.
As agents of change, honors students use the Community Action Challenge to outline the scope of their concerns and dreams, explore what it takes to have a lasting impact, and transform their communities and themselves.
• Keep CAC at the core of your honors experience. Talk with your honors advisor about your hopes for your communities and how you might make a difference now and later.
• Use the University’s Service Directory to keep a record of your work – what tasks you undertook or where you volunteered, what you accomplished, why it mattered. To find the Directory, go into your MyOleMiss account and click on the Student Tab. Under Tools and Resources, you’ll find Service Administration. Use that Directory to tell us and the University where and how you have been an agent of change in your community.
