Liza Boyer Named Mount Vernon Fellow
Elizabeth “Liza” Boyer (SMBHC 20) has been chosen as a Mount Vernon Leadership Fellow. The program is a fully funded six-week summer institute for rising college juniors to cultivate leadership skills. Students meet with national leaders, engage with other fellows, and collaborate with their assigned mentor on their individual capstone projects while based in Washington, DC. Applicants are evaluated on academic achievement, leadership ability, and the proposed capstone projects. Each year, only 12-16 scholars are selected from universities across the U.S. From Houston, MS, Liza is majoring in economics and studies an array of subjects ranging from Intelligence and Security Studies to Russian. She is involved with ASB, Delta Gamma, the Big Event, Oxford Park Commission, and the United States Attorney’s Office. Her proposed capstone for the Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows program is to help students realize their academic and professional goals in order to help combat brain drain and the lack of academic aspirations that currently plague Mississippi.
